Project Wild Thing (Dir David Bond, UK, PG, 83 mins), an ambitious, documentary that takes a funny and revealing look at a complex issue, the increasingly disparate connection between children and nature.
Filmmaker David Bond is a worried man. His kids’ waking hours are dominated by a cacophony of marketing, and a screen dependence threatening to turn them into glassy-eyed zombies. Like city kids everywhere, they spend way too much time indoors.
The second film, Hearts, Farms and Gardens (Dir Zan Bar Berton, UK, PG, 26 mins) explores the cities hidden back-streets and back-alleys of neglected estates, on railway sidings and in disused corners of the city, seemingly unnoticed by the hustle and bustle of the rat race, is a network of precious green space. There are 16 city farms in London and hundreds of community gardens and growing sites. Almost without exception they are in dependent charities, started by volunteers and treasured by their local communities.
Bring a bike to power up the screenings. Electric Pedals is all about energy appreciation, education and the environment. Using the energy generated by people to power cinemas, music stages, workshops, art installations.
